Episode 205: Ditch the Yo-yo & Find Your Middle

Every feel like you’re yo-yoing through life?

Let’s change that right now…

Hey y’all, welcome to More Lovin, the podcast that brings more laughter, light, and love into everyday life. I’m your host LeAnn Austin, and together we’ll rediscover the beauty of connection to your body, your mind, your spirit, and the people you love.

Today’s episode #205: Ditch the Yo-yo & Find Your Middle

I’m so glad you’re here, especially as we kick off a brand new year. Now, let’s talk about something we’ve all done at one time or another…Yo-yoing. And no, I’m not talking about the toy, though that’s kind of a fun image to think about, I’m talking about life yo-yoing.

You know what I mean? One week we’re all in: we’re meal prepping, journaling, working out, saying, this is the new me. And then, two weeks later, we’re on the couch with chips, binge-watching something and thinking: well that didn’t last very long.

And we call that failure. But you know what, that’s not failure. It’s just the messy middle. As Brene Brown says: “The middle is messy, but it’s also where the magic happens.”

I’ve been thinking a lot about this as the new year begins, because we do love extremes, don’t we? We love the all or nothing energy: 30 day challenges, detoxes, big resolutions. But real growth, real calm, real connection… that happens in the middle.

It’s the space between hustle and rest, between striving and surrender. The messy middle is where you learn to trust yourself, to take the next small step without needing perfection.

I’ve definitely had my own yo-yo moments with goals and growth. There have been seasons where I was either super productive or completely unplugged. And the middle felt well, very uncomfortable. I was questioning often, shouldn’t I be doing more or less?

But thankfully I learned when we yo-yo between extremes, the all in or I give up, our nervous system feels it. That push-pull pattern can make our body feel unsafe, anxious, or exhausted.

But when we hang out in the messy middle: when we allow grace, curiosity, and flexibility, our body starts to trust us again. We build safety, we build consistency, we build connection. That’s what creates lasting change: not the extremes, but the small steady choices that come from a calm body and a connected spirit.

So here’s your More Lovin lesson for today. Instead of chasing the high or judging the low, hang out in the middle. Notice your progress, your patterns, and your peace. That’s where lasting change grows.

Maybe this year isn’t about reinventing yourself. Maybe it’s about reconnecting to yourself, your body, your mind, and your spirit, right in the middle of the mess.

So as you move into this year, try this. When you feel yourself yo-yoing: pause, take a breath, put your hand on your heart, and lean into that messy middle. That right there is More Lovin. Hmm, something to think about.
