You can’t connect well when your nervous system thinks you’re in danger.
Let’s help your nervous system feel safe and fully you. Because connection starts inside.
Hey y’all, welcome to Lovin My Daughter-in-law podcast, where connection, love, and a whole lot of fun come together. I am LeAnn Austin, boy mom and teacher, turned master certified life coach, who once had all the feelings when cute girlies started dating my sons.
I had to learn a lot about love, boundaries and connection. Not just with my daughters-in-law, but with myself. That’s how Lovin My Daughter-in-law was born.
So if you’re craving more love, connection, and fun in your life, especially the kind that starts from within, this podcast is for you.
Today’s episode #187: Lovin My Nervous System
Okay, y’all, here’s something nobody told me. You can’t build better relationships when your nervous system feels like it’s under attack. And most of us are walking around stuck in survival mode without even realizing it. In today’s episode, we’re talking about what’s actually happening inside your body when you feel anxious, awkward, or disconnected, and how you can shift it in simple, doable ways.
What is your nervous system and why should you care about it?
Well, here’s a quick non-sciencey breakdown. It’s your built-in stress management and the powerful communication network between your mind and your body working behind the scenes to keep you alive and well.
It is how your thoughts, emotions, and physical reactions stay connected.
A big part is called the autonomic nervous system, and it’s in charge of everything. You don’t even have to think about like your heartbeat, breathing, and digestion. We call it the autonomic nervous system. Because it’s automatic and it’s watching out for your survival and well-being.
So why does your nervous system matter in every relationship?
Well, it decides whether you feel calm, anxious, awkward, or totally shut down. If you don’t feel safe in your body, it’s really hard to connect well with others.
This is exactly why I created the Lovin My Nervous System Course Inside Connection Crew – to give you countless easy tools to check in with your body and reset in real life moments.
Connection gets so much easier when your nervous system feels safe. You stop walking on eggshells. You stop trying to people please. You feel more like yourself.
Inside Lovin My Nervous System course. I show you how to build that sense of safety on purpose in tiny ways that you can actually use during family dinners, tough conversations, or stressful moments.
Because when you feel safe, you show up as your calm, kind, connected self.
So LeAnn, how do you even know when you’re out of your resilient zone? Well, are you holding your breath? Is your heart racing or your chest tight? Are you overthinking everything you said to someone you care about? Avoiding people or people pleasing them, or maybe you’re dreading a phone call or a conversation.
I’ve got so many skills and tools for you inside the new Lovin My Nervous System course that can help you with this!
So for now, do a quick body check-in. Notice 3 things you feel in your body right now. No judgment – just noticing. Awareness is a key factor in befriending that beautiful nervous system of yours.
And one more thing, the power of your breath.
Most of us breathe too fast, or we hold our breath when we’re stressed. Your breath is the fastest way to calm your nervous system. Again, I have so many tools to help you with this that I teach in Connection Crew. Like the low and slow nasal breathing – inhale four and exhale six.
So if you’re craving more calm, more connection, and less of that constant inner tension, come hang out with us in Connection Crew. It’s my monthly membership where you’ll get instant access to Lovin My Nervous System course, plus four other amazing courses. There are coaching calls, new monthly topics, and an awesome crew of people doing this work alongside of you.
Try it out for a month and get so many amazing tools to love on your nervous system. Your nervous system is always with you, and when you learn to love it, everything else gets easier.
I love this quote by Candace Pert: “The nervous system is the ultimate conductor of the symphony of life.” Hmm, something to think about.
Here’s to Lovin My Nervous System, connection, and love. Have a good one y’all.
