Hey y’all. Welcome to Lovin My Daughter-in-law, episode #175: Oops! The Best Mistakes I Ever Made

Today we’re talking about something we all do, whether we like to admit it or not…. Mistakes.

Yep, we’re diving into, “Oops! The Best Mistakes I Ever Made.” You know, those cringey choices, detours, or totally unplanned situations that somehow turned into life lessons, open doors, or even major blessings? That’s what we’re talking about today.

Years ago, I sent an email when I was feeling pretty irritated. I typed out everything I was thinking and just hit send. No edits, no cool down moment, just boom – out it went.

And whew, the response I got back was pretty snarky. They called me passive aggressive and a bunch of other things I didn’t want to hear. And I was mad. I read it to my husband along with the email I sent, and he so kindly pointed out: “um, you were kind of snarky too.”

Yep. That one stung, but it taught me something that I’ll never forget. Pause before you respond. Now, whenever there’s a tough conversation or email, I type it out, take a minute, sometimes a full day, and even have my husband read it before I push send. I want to respond from a place of love, just not react from a place of heat.

That “oops” turned into one of the best communication habits I’ve got now. This has been such a blessing to me and help me through some pretty tough situations.

Remember, we all mess up. The question is, what do we do with the mess?

Sometimes our biggest mistakes are actually divine redirections. That friendship that ended? Maybe it made room for another real tender connection. Lost a job? Maybe that’s what gave you the push to start something new.

So here’s a juicy question for you to think on or journal about.

What’s one mistake you’ve made that turned into one of your greatest life lessons?

Let it come to you. Maybe you’re still in the thick of it and can’t see the lesson just yet, and that’s okay too.

Remind yourself that mistakes don’t mean you’re off track. Often they’re proof that you’re on track. Life isn’t about getting everything right. It’s about growing through the things that go sideways.

I’ve learned that mistakes are often the fast track to clarity. They show us what we really want, what we care about, and where we need to grow.

So here’s one more journaling prompt if you are in that, “Why did I do that?” headspace. What mistake am I still holding onto that might actually have taught me something valuable?

Hmm, write it out. You might surprise yourself with what you uncover.
