Hey y’all, welcome to Lovin My Daughter-in-law, episode #173: Are You Living on Autopilot?

Have you ever driven somewhere and realized you don’t remember the drive? Or gone through your daily routine without even thinking about it? That’s autopilot mode. It’s our brain’s way of saving energy, but the problem is, it can make life feel like one big blur.

What if you could wake up from autopilot and start living more intentionally?

Too often, we rush through our days missing out on the little joys, the meaningful moments, and the deeper connections. We tell ourselves we’ll slow down later, but later never comes unless we make it happen.

So how do we break free from routine and start being more present?

Well, here are 3 ways to rewire your daily life:

First, pause and notice. Before diving into your usual habits, take a moment to check in with yourself. Ask, what am I feeling right now? What’s happening around me? Engage your senses. Notice the colors, the sounds, even the feel of your breath. Being present in small moments makes a huge difference.

Second, shake up your routine. Autopilot thrives on sameness. So challenge it. Take a different route to work. Listen to a new podcast, like this one. Eat something different for lunch, or even switch up the order of your morning routine. Small changes wake up your brain and make you more aware.

And third, engage with intention instead of just doing things. Ask why you are doing them. Are your habits serving you or are you just going through the motions? What do you want more of in your life? What excites you? When you start making choices on purpose, life becomes richer and more meaningful.

The truth is life isn’t simply about checking off tasks. It’s about experiencing it.

This week, I challenge you to wake up in one small way. Notice something new. Try something different. Be fully here. Because this moment, it’s the only one guaranteed. Let’s start living on purpose.

Paula Rinehart says: “Life is not a journey you want to make on autopilot.” Hmm, something to think about.

Here’s to intention, connection, and love. Have a good one, y’all.
