Hey y’all, welcome to Love Tidbits, episode #39: So What?
Do you have someone in your life that you struggle with? It may be a spouse, your kids, your daughter-in-law, or anyone. Do you notice yourself not liking what they do or say? Well, I’ve got a trick for you to try that works well for me and my clients.
Start using the phrase, So What? Someone says or does something that you disagree with. Try thinking in your mind, so what? Your mind may then go to, that wasn’t very nice. Again think, so what? Whatever is coming up for you, keep asking yourself, so what?
Let me give you a specific example. My son didn’t call me back. My mind started spinning about this and I quickly stopped it and said, so what? Well, he’s rude, he should call his mama back. And then I’d think, so what? It doesn’t really matter. Maybe he’s doing something. All of the thoughts, but I would just respond with, so what? Then my brain went to, why can’t he communicate with me more? And I thought, so what? Maybe he is communicating with me, just different ways. Doesn’t mean he has to call me. So notice what I’m doing here. Everything that my brain is thinking is wrong. I just respond with, so what?
So what is an informal way of saying it doesn’t matter. It’s not relevant. It’s not important. Don’t worry about it. See what comes up for you, when you say, so what?
I love this quote by Richelle Goodrich: “Take a step back. Draw in a deep breath. Now ask yourself, ‘so what?’ Then, after answering, ask yourself again, ‘so what?’ And then a third time – ‘so what?’ Chances are you’ll come to realize that the issue at hand is not as dire, detrimental, or important as you first thought.” Hmmm, something to think about.
Have a good one y’all ~ and hears to ‘so what?’ and love.
