Episode 221: Nourishment without Rules

What if nourishment didn’t come with rules, just helpful tools?

Hey y’all, welcome to More Lovin, the podcast that brings more laughter, light, and love into everyday life. I’m your host LeAnn Austin, and together we’ll rediscover the beauty of connection to your body, your mind, your spirit, and the people you love.

Today’s episode #221: Nourishment without Rules

One of my favorite reminders is: Tools work better than rules. I even did a whole episode about that episode #214, because rules create pressure and tools create possibility.

The five basics aren’t about doing life perfectly. They’re tools backed by science and proven by experience. They help your body feel steady, so more lovin comes easier.

Today we’re focusing on Basic #4: Nourishment. And I want to invite you to rethink nourishment, not as something to restrict or manage, but as something that supports your body and your nervous system.

Your body needs fuel to think clearly, regulate emotion, move well, and feel safe. When nourishment is missing or inconsistent, your nervous system notices.

Science shows us that balanced nourishment helps stabilize blood sugar, reduce intense cravings, support hormone health, and improve our mood and our focus.

Now, that’s not diet culture, that’s biology.

So instead of asking: What should I avoid? Try asking: What would help my body feel supported right now? Or am I eating from hunger or from urgency? Or what food would feel steady in my body?

Protein, fiber, and hydration aren’t rules. They’re tools, and tools that can be used gently.

So here are three simple tools to try out this week.

First, the add-in tool. Instead of taking something away, ask: What can I add? Can I add more protein to my breakfast or fiber to my lunch, or a glass of water in the afternoon? No restriction. Just support.

Second, the pause + notice tool. Before you eat, take one breath and ask: What do I actually need? And how hungry am I on a scale of one to 10? Not to judge, just to notice. Awareness calms our nervous system.

And our third simple tool, the satisfaction check. Halfway through a meal, ask yourself: How do I want to feel after this? What does satisfied feel like in my body? Satisfied might feel warm or calm, energized, not stuffed, not deprived, just steady.

Remember, food isn’t something to control, it’s something to partner with.

When you nourish your body consistently, your mood stabilizes, your patience increases, your clarity improves, and more lovin becomes so much easier. Hmmm, something to think about.
