Hey y’all, you’re listening to Lovin My Daughter-in-law, episode #147: Knowing Your Values
Today we’re talking about knowing your values. Perfect timing as we head into the holiday season.
Do you ever feel like your values are hard to figure out?
Or maybe you’ve wondered how valuable you really are.
Values are what we think are important and they help us decide how we act and what we care about. But there are so many different kinds of values – personal, moral, social, and even economical.
The cool thing? We get to choose what’s important to us. Knowing what we value and how much we’re worth can really change our lives.
Let me tell you a story about a cute seven year old boy that lives in my neighborhood who reminded me of this in the sweetest way.
There was a great big storm here, and the rain was pouring down, the wind was blowing, trees were falling, and power was out. After the storm, I took Nutmeg for a walk, and we passed these two neighborhood boys. They wanted to tell me all about the storm, and how their window had broken, and all the things.
Well, while we were talking, we heard a loud crack, and saw a big tree start to fall just a few feet away from us. One of the boys jumped off his bike and ran closer to me. My heart stopped and I wondered if we were too close to that tree. Thankfully, we were okay, and we kept walking together, talking about how wild and scary it was to see a tree fall right in front of us.
Then the seven year old boy said, “I jumped off my bike because I’m more special than my bike.” Ah, how tender is that? At age seven, he knew how valuable he is.
Do we remember that about ourselves? Do we realize we are more valuable than anything we own? It’s so easy to forget.
That’s why in Connection Crew, one of the first things we do is to help you see and love your own value. This is especially important during the holidays when you’re connecting with family and friends.
