Hey y’all, you’re listening to Lovin My Daughter-in-law, episode #114: Cabrini
There’s a new movie out that I saw recently and highly recommend called Cabrini. It follows the epic journey of Francesca Cabrini as she travels to America to improve the lives of thousands of Italian immigrants. This film emphasizes strong women’s roles, showing where they do so much to transform hard circumstances into opportunities and fight for justice.
I felt so many emotions as I watched this show. Observing Cabrini advocate for the forgotten ones and persevere through countless impossibilities was an incredible experience.
I want to share five out of the many, many beautiful quotes from the show.
First, “Open your eyes, see everything.” As Cabrini and her sisters walked through the slums of New York, she reminded them to “open your eyes, see everything. Such an incredible reminder to seek opportunities to serve every day.
Second, “We are all the same. All human beings. Children of God.” I love this and completely agree. There is no hierarchy of humans. No one is better than another. Each one of us is 100 percent valuable and lovable no matter what.
The third quote, Cabrini is talking with the Pope and said; “We are bold or we die. This is how I learned to live in America.” Cabrini lived boldly every day, from dawn until dusk. She faced challenges with grit and grace. Leveraging her entrepreneurial mind to establish one of the largest humanitarian networks the world has ever seen.
Fourth, “One small gesture of love can change everything.” Cabrini didn’t just speak these words, she lived them until her last breath. She led by example, overcoming immense bigotry, sexism, and violence to improve the lives of children who couldn’t help themselves. Cabrini founded 67 orphanages, hospitals, and schools, and was named the first American saint. Her legacy of hope, compassion, and service to marginalized people continues to inspire generations.
And my last favorite quote from Cabrini is; “We can serve our weakness, or we can serve our purpose.” Hmm, something to think about.
Have a good one y’all, and here’s to Cabrini, connection, and love.
