Hey y’all, you’re listening to Lovin My Daughter-in-law, Episode #101: Connection

It’s a new year and a new word for our family. Some of you may do a word of the year, or not at all. Whatever you do is great. The last several years, we’ve done a word, so it’s become a tradition at our home. And this year, I asked the kids a few months ago for some ideas. As I was connecting with my kids, this word was mentioned and it spoke to my heart in so many ways.

Our word and focus for 2024 is Connection. We relate connection to a stool with three legs. The legs of the stool representing body, mind, and spirit. Thinking of ways we can create connection with our body, our mind, and our spirit, helps give us a solid foundation, like a stool. Ponder this with me for a minute.

How do you connect with your body? Maybe it’s through exercise, nourishing food, rest, drinking water, and simply noticing what you’re feeling in your body.

What about your mind? How do you connect with your mind? Learning new things, reading, attending classes, doing creative activities like writing, painting, or music. What about cognitive things like solving puzzles, playing games, or for me it’s tap dancing and trying to remember all the steps.

Lastly, how do you connect with your spirit? Maybe it’s prayer, meditation, spending time in nature, walking, gardening, simply being outside. Maybe it’s being grateful and expressing kindness to others and ourselves, are some ways that we connect with our spirit.

Connection is one of our basic human needs, and what I find so interesting, is that when we can connect to ourselves and truly love and have compassion for us, it makes it so much easier to connect with others. So I challenge each of us to think of ways we can connect to our body, to our mind, and to our spirit, however that looks uniquely for you.

A beautiful quote by Leonardo da Vinci, “Realize that everything connects to everything else.” Hmmm, something to think about.

Have a good one y’all, and here’s to connection and love.
