Episode 246: You Don’t Need To Fix It

I just need to get myself together.
What if you don’t need to fix yourself, or anything?

Hey y’all. Welcome to More Lovin, the podcast that brings more laughter, light, and love into everyday life. I’m LeAnn Austin, and around here, love isn’t just something we talk about, it’s something we practice through the More Lovin method: MOVE.CONNECT. LOVE. Three simple choices that can change your day, and over time, your life. Let’s practice a little more lovin. Here we go~

Today’s episode #246: You Don’t Need To Fix It

Have you ever had one of those days where you’re just feeling off? You’re not exactly sure what’s wrong. You’re irritated. You’re overwhelmed. Your brain is going 47 different directions. You have approximately 8,000 things to do. Someone needs something from you. Your phone won’t stop dinging, and you’re thinking, “I just need to get myself together.”

Well today, I want to offer you a different idea. Maybe you don’t need to get yourself together. Maybe you just need a reset. And I know this sounds simple, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve caught myself trying to solve a problem when what I really needed was to get out of my head, move my body, take a breath, and figure out what I actually needed.

Sometimes I don’t need a solution. I need a reset. And maybe it doesn’t need to take an hour or a whole day or a vacation. Maybe it takes three minutes. Because sometimes we think if we’re going to feel better, we have to make some giant change. We need to fix the problem, figure everything out, get motivated, get organized, and sometimes we just need to pause long enough to come back to ourselves.

That’s why I created the More Lovin 3-Minute Reset. It’s a simple little practice designed to help you pause, reconnect, and choose what you need next, and it fits beautifully into the More Lovin method: MOVE. CONNECT. LOVE. Let me walk you through it.

Minute #1: MOVE.

First, move your body, and I’m not talking about a workout. You could stand up, stretch, take a few steps, roll your shoulders, shake out your arms, take a little walk around the room, maybe even put on a song and dance for 60 seconds. Because sometimes when our bodies have been sitting still, our brains can feel stuck too.

Movement gives us a chance to shift our state. So minute 1 is simply move. Get out of your head and back into your body.

Minute #2: CONNECT.

And this is where I want you to get curious. Instead of immediately asking, How do I fix this? Ask, What am I noticing? What’s happening in your body? What’s happening in your thoughts? What are you feeling?

Maybe you’re tense, tired, overwhelmed, frustrated, sad, hungry. Maybe you don’t even know, and that’s okay too. There is no perfect answer. Just notice, because connection starts with paying attention, and sometimes the kindest thing you can say to yourself is, Oh, no wonder I’m feeling this way. Not judgment, just awareness.

Minute #3: LOVE.

Now before you roll your eyes at me, I’m not talking about sitting in a field surrounded by butterflies and telling yourself how wonderful you are, although if you wanna do that, I fully support it. I’m talking about asking, What would loving me look like right now?

Maybe you need some water. Maybe you need some food. Maybe you need to say no or take a break. Maybe you need to make the phone call you’ve been avoiding, or maybe you need to get outside or ask for help. Or maybe you need to stop trying to solve something that doesn’t need to be solved today. Loving yourself doesn’t always mean doing big things. Sometimes it means listening to what your heart is telling you and responding with kindness.

MOVE. CONNECT. LOVE. 3-minutes, that’s it. And here’s what I want you to hear. The goal isn’t to make everything better in 3-minutes. Your hard conversations might still need to happen. The messy house will still be there. Your to-do list probably isn’t going anywhere. But maybe you can change the way you meet it because sometimes we don’t need a different life. We just simply need a different starting point, and that’s what a reset gives us, a new starting point.

So let’s actually do one right now. If you can, put down whatever you’re doing, and if you’re driving, obviously don’t do this part right now, just listen and save it for later. All right, if you’re somewhere you can safely pause with me, let’s do it.

Uncross your legs, drop your shoulders, take a breath, and stand up if you’re able. Take a few steps, roll your shoulders, shake out your hands, take another breath, and let that breath out slowly. Now pause. Notice. What are you feeling right now? No fixing, no judging, just notice.

And now ask yourself, what would loving me look like right now? Maybe you already know, and maybe you don’t. You’re just creating a little space between what’s happening and what you do next. And sometimes that’s all we need to make a different choice. That little space can be powerful.

And if you want a little help remembering this, I’ve created a free More Lovin 3-Minute Reset. It includes the reset worksheets and a phone wallpaper so you can keep the reminder right where you’ll see it.

And here’s my favorite part; You don’t have to wait until you’re having a really hard day to use it. Try it when you’re feeling good. Practice it when you’re calm. Because when you practice something when things are easy, it’s much easier to remember it when things aren’t.

And if you haven’t already, I’d love for you to grab your free More Lovin 3-Minute Reset. And the next time you catch yourself thinking, I just need to get myself together, try this instead, Maybe I just need a reset.

3-minutes. MOVE. CONNECT. LOVE. And then take your next step. Because you don’t have to fix everything today. You can just come back to yourself. Hmmm, something to think about and practice. 3-Minute Reset HERE

Before we go, grab one thing from today’s conversation and remember the More Lovin method: MOVE. CONNECT. LOVE. Here’s to a little more moving and connecting, and a whole lot more lovin. You got this! And remember, you don’t need to fix everything. Often, 3-minutes is enough to begin.
