Hey y’all, you’re listening to Lovin My Daughter-in-law, episode # 150: Space for Faith

I love the Christmas season. For Christians, Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus, who is believed to be the Son of God and the Savior of humanity. Faith is central to this belief as it involves trusting in the promises of God and the significance of Jesus life and mission.

Now, faith is a firm belief or trust in something. To have faith includes hoping for and believing in things that are true, even when we can’t see them or completely understand them.

So how do we create space for faith in our lives? Remember that faith is a deeply personal journey, but there are universal practices that help cultivate trust, belief, and connection.

Here are five ways to nurture and grow your faith:

1st: Build a habit of prayer or meditation. Regular communication with the divine, whether through prayer, meditation, or contemplation, helps you stay connected and grounded. Even short moments of stillness each day can strengthen your sense of trust and peace.

2nd: Deepen your understanding. Engage with sacred texts, spiritual books, or teachings relevant to your faith tradition. Reflect on their meaning in your life. A big part of this is asking questions. Don’t shy away from doubt or curiosity. Exploring questions can lead us to a more authentic faith. So ask the questions.

3rd: Act on your faith. Faith grows stronger through action. We show our faith by the way we are. Live out your beliefs by practicing kindness, forgiveness, generosity, and service to others. Small acts of faithfulness can build confidence in what you believe.

Now the 4th way to nurture and grow your faith is to look for signs of the divine. Pay attention to moments of beauty and connection in your daily life. These can serve as reminders of something greater at work. It’s often through our relationships and nature that spiritual truths are revealed to us. I’ve noticed that when I seek miracles, I see them everywhere.

And 5th: Acknowledge and celebrate. Faith is like a muscle. It grows with use. So notice and celebrate all the little moments when you choose trust over fear. Or belief over doubt. I do this by intentionally connecting with my spirit each day and then sharing or celebrating the countless tender mercies that are in my life as I grow my faith.

Now remember, faith is not static. It evolves and grows with time, intention, and openness. When we consistently nurture our spiritual practices and seek connection, our faith can become a source of great strength and guidance.

So, as you’re creating space for faith in your life, remember these five things:

Build a habit of prayer or meditation

Deepen your understanding

Act on your faith

Look for signs of the divine

Acknowledge and celebrate.

I love this thought from Mother Teresa: “Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” Hmm, something to think about.

Have a beautiful Christmas season as you create space for faith and connect with your mind, body and especially your spirit. Here’s to faith, connection, and love. Have a good one, y’all.
