Welcome to Lovin My Daughter-in-law Podcast, where my mother-in-law, relationship expert and master certified coach LeAnn Austin, will help you create more love and connection with your daughter-in-law and everyone else you care about.
Hey y’all, you’re listening to Lovin My Daughter-in-law, Episode #86: Tour Guide
We’ve gone on a couple trips with our family, and a few times we’ve hired a tour guide. In Puerto Rico, we went on this hike that I have no idea how we would have navigated it without a guide. We had to wear helmets and life jackets, and some of the path was so rocky and steep, we had to use ropes to climb it. The guides would tell us where to step and what to avoid. They taught us about the area and made the adventure enjoyable.
So in thinking about a tour guide, I’m guessing there are places in your life where you could be the guide. And other places where you’d want to have a guide. I love that each one of us has expertise in different areas, and it’s so fun when we can share that knowledge and information with others as the guide. It’s also amazing to be guided, to experience and learn new things.
You may be thinking, Hey LeAnn, why is it important to have or be a guide? Well, these are the top five reasons for me.
First, guides provide educational expertise. They are knowledgeable about the destination, the subject matter, and the theme of the tour. They may not know everything, however, what they do know can be so impactful as you go through the experience together. This builds and strengthens relationships with others and with yourself, as you grow and learn new things.
Number two, guides prioritize safety and the wellbeing of those they are with. They provide guidance on staying safe, potential hazards and emergency procedures. Being aware and attentive to those you’re guiding ensures that participants stay on track and reach each point of interest safely and efficiently.
Number three, guides aim to keep participants engaged and interested. They may use anecdotes, storytelling, humor, music, and interactive activities to make the experience enjoyable. As well as increase the fun and connection between those involved.
Number four, guides are problem solvers. When unexpected issues arise, guides are responsible for making quick decisions and finding solutions to keep things running as smoothly as possible. They are also flexible and can adapt and modify the experiences needed to accommodate the interests and needs of those participating.
Number five, lastly, guides provide excellent customer service by addressing questions, concerns, and special requests. They strive to ensure that this is a positive experience for everyone.
How have you been a guide throughout your life? Who have you provided assistance and information to? I’m guessing there are probably a lot of people in situations where you’ve given guidance.
I’m at a point now in my life where I’m giving guidance on emotional and mental health. As a life coach, I’ve worked with many clients. In fact, I recently added up the numbers, and since beginning my Life Coach journey in 2019, I’ve had over 4,000 clients that I’ve been blessed to guide. I’ve helped them better understand what is happening in their beautiful minds as they become aware of, accept, and choose however they want to proceed in their lives.
I also have my own coaches who help and guide me on my own emotional and mental health journey. I’ve been able to handle situations with my family, friends, and myself so much better because I have a coach, aka a guide, to help me navigate life and strengthen my mental and emotional muscles, just like we do with our physical muscles.
If you’d like to learn more and have me as your guide to help you create more fun and connection with your daughter-in-law, or anyone you care about, including yourself, message me anytime. I’d love to guide you on any part of your journey.
This quote from Galileo really hit home to me. “We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.” Hmm, something to think about.
