Welcome to Lovin My Daughter-in-law Podcast, where my mother-in-law, relationship expert and master certified coach LeAnn Austin, will help you create more love and connection with your daughter-in-law and everyone else you care about.
Hey y’all, you’re listening to Lovin My Daughter-in-law, Episode #82: Lift Where You Stand
I’ve always been intrigued by the word LIFT. In fact, years ago it was our family word of the year. I think it’s because of its various meanings and applications that “lift” really fascinates me.
Lift by definition means, to raise or elevate something from a lower to a higher position.
Right now I think of physical lift as I’m learning to do a pull up. I use weights and rings and bands and other exercises as I’m strengthening my muscles in order to lift my body up with my chin over the bar.
Then there is lifting others; helping them, and lifting them in times of need. Many of us spend a big chunk of our life doing this. Sometimes we think we have to do all the things. But the beauty of living in a family or with friends and in community, is the strength that comes lifting together.
In Germany years ago, a bunch of guys were moving a grand piano. None were professional movers, and the task of getting this gravity friendly instrument into another room seemed nearly impossible.
Everyone knew that this task required not only physical strength, but also careful coordination. There were lots of ideas, but none of them could keep the piano balanced correctly. They even tried repositioning the guys by strength, height, and age over and over again, but nothing worked.
As they stood around the piano, uncertain of what to do next, Hanno Luschin spoke up. He said, “guys, stand close together and lift where you stand.”
It seemed too simple, but each of them lifted where they stood and the piano rose from the ground and they were able to move it. That was the answer to the challenge. They simply needed to stand close together and lift where they stood.
There is also emotional lift. Things we do to feel uplifted, to lift our spirits. This is something I’ve dived into for the past five years on my life coach journey. I didn’t understand the importance of our mental and emotional health back then, but thankfully I do now. Teaching my clients about our thoughts and feelings, and how they end up as our results, is a beautiful way to create an emotional lift in our lives.
The power that comes from knowing how to experience whatever we’re feeling and lift ourselves emotionally and mentally to a higher position, if we’d like, is life changing. If you want to learn how to lift yourself emotionally and mentally to a higher place, message me. This is what I do every day, and I’d love to be a part of your journey.
I just heard a song called Lift where You Stand by Mandy Grace and I love it. She beautifully sings the following lyrics:
Who says you have to be perfect? Not me.
Who says you have to get it right the first time? Not me.
Who will deny you time to be angry and frustrated. I will be there and you know I will share any burden you bear.
Who says that laughter can’t heal you? Not me.
Who says you have to use words to explain? Not me.
Who will deny you days where you take and you can’t give back. I will be there and you know, I will share any burden you bear.
Oh, nothing but something like this takes years and years, but it can happen today if you open your heart and set aside your fears.
Stand where you are and lift where you stand. When you have gotten as low to the ground as you could be, I can help you stand where you are and lift where you stand. Wherever you are, you will find me. I’ll always stand by you when you lift, where you stand.
Thank you Mandy, for sharing that beautiful song with all of us.
Lifting where we stand refers to the power we have right now, to take the opportunities to help ourselves and others physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.
I love the wisdom from Dieter Uchtdorf. He shares; “Stand close together and lift where you stand.” Hmm, something to think about.
Have a good one y’all, and here’s to lifting where we stand and love.
